In February 2019, the society organised a behind the scenes excursion to The Eric Young Foundation, Jersey.
As well as a thoroughly good explanation of how the foundation came to being and a extensive tour of the large exhibition greenhouse, given by Chris Purver, we were also treated to a tour of the four greenhouse, usually only seen from the viewing gallery.
We were then given an insight into the four working greenhouses not open to the public. Orchid Overload.
Questions Answers, Answers Questions.
At this time of year the greenhouses were ablaze with Cymbidiums, Oncidiums, Phalaenopsis, Paphiopedilums, Phragmipedium, Miltonia and a few other rare treats.
If this wasn’t enough, we were also invited to visit the Library, which is rarely open for viewing, which we accepted. There, apart from many others books and Journals and manuscripts viewed, a rare original book by James Bateman.
The tour started at 1.15pm and we finally said our goodbyes at 6.30pm.
We shall return.
