Table Show Rules

The Table Shows at the society’s monthly meeting form an important part of our activities. They provide an opportunity for members to view plants which they may not have in their collections also they enable us to gain tips on good culture. We are lucky to have amongst the society’s membership a number of judges accredited by the British Orchid Council.

  1. All exhibitors agree to abide by the rules.
  2. Submission of plants for judging is open to all members of the society.
  3. The decision of the judges(s) is/are final.
  4. Placing an entry in the correct class is the responsibility of the exhibitor.
  5. Late entries may be accepted at the discretion of the table steward/judge.
  6. Members should not remove plants after the start, or before that end of the show/meeting without the permission of the show steward.
  7. The judge(s) have the power to refuse an entry and reserve the sole right to interpret the show regulations and schedules.
  8. Properly completed and signed show cards must accompany every exhibit.
  9. Plants must be properly labelled. Nomenclature on labels is to be based upon the International Code of Horticultural Nomenclature.
  10. The presence of proliferating communicable diseases resident on any plant will lead to disqualification.
  11. All plants must have been in the lawful possession of the exhibitor, and have been grown within the boundaries of his/her property for at least twelve months.
  12. Unless invited by a judge all members are to stay clear of the table during judging.
  13. Exhibitors may only win one prize in any given class, but may enter as many exhibits as they wish.
  14. Once exhibited a plant does not qualify for re-entry until a period of six months has elapsed.
  15. Natural hybrids are regarded as hybrids for judging purposes.
  16. All orchid plants shown must be in flower unless an exception is made by the judge(s)/Table Steward before entry.
  17. The Society can accept no liability for damage to exhibits of whatever nature.
  18. Disregard of any of the rules may lead to disqualification.
  19. All cups and trophies remain the property of the Society and must be returned before re-awarding is due.
  20. Any complaints should be made in writing before the show/meeting is over.
