The society was formed about 50 years ago by a group of orchid lovers in Ware and our membership is now drawn from a wide area including Hertfordshire, Essex, North London and Bedfordshire.
Lea Valley Orchid Society is a friendly group with members who have a wide range of experience from those just starting to grow orchids and having plants on the windowsill to others who are acknowledged experts with international reputations.
Although some orchids are more widely available the challenge of growing many orchids is still as elusive and a worthy challenge.
The society is involved in putting on many orchid displays including international events and awarded several RHS medals.
We have an interesting programme for eleven months of the year covering topics from general orchid culture to in depth lectures on specialist genus. Also in our annual programme is our yearly auction with the chance to acquire orchids at very reasonable prices.

Hi Jilly
It is great to hear you are taking a dive into the deep end of the horticulture world. There is so many things to explore along with the challenge of growing your own orchids. Our orchid society is currently having online zoom meetings and I will add you to the invite list. I am happy to give advice and if possible visit your greenhouse. I will be in contact soon
